Most of my clients ask about selecting a massage therapist when you have Fibromyalgia. Every massage therapist has their unique approaches to massage and everyone with Fibromyalgia have their unique issues. So it may take some time to find the right fit for you. However, massage therapy is very helpful for reducing Fibromyalgia symptoms and I would encourage you to find the right therapist for you.
Some things to think about when selecting a massage therapist. Talk to the therapist to determine how much experience they have working with Fibromyalgia clients. Find out which symptoms they have experience working with. Find out what techniques they use and how much pressure they find helpful. Some of my Fibromyalgia clients like a deeper touch and some like a lighter touch.
When experiencing your first massage, I recommend having a lighter massage and working into deeper work if you feel that is the best fit for you. Starting out too deep can cause a flare-up so it’s better to do less and work your way into more later. Watch a video on this topic: http://www.youtube.com/user/BodyworkAlternatives
